My work explores the interplay between collective childhood experiences and the inner child through soft sculpture – acrylic on fabric and hand-sewn objects. In my installation, Reverie, I create an intimate space inspired by a child’s pillow fort, inviting viewers to reflect on their childhood memories. This exploration is enriched by surveys of young adults on their inner child and childhood experiences. The installation is anchored by part of a mattress from my grandparents’ home, signifying their integral role in my life. Upcycled pillowcases feature painterly depictions of universal childhood moments, while hand-sewn objects evoke the playful creativity of the inner child. These personal and familiar items merge to create an artwork that is both deeply connected to my experiences while resonating with the shared nostalgia of others. Through this blend of personal and universal elements, I aim to foster a space for vulnerability and reconnection.
