Kiana Laguna

Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours)

Kiana Laguna (he/they, b.2002) is a disabled and trans emerging artist, living and working on Ngambri and Ngunnawal land. Kiana’s practice revolves around themes of narrative, horror and memory. They focus on representations of trauma, dissociation, childhood and living with disability, presented on large-scale paintings and drawings. Kiana draws from personal experiences and relationships to create fantastical works that toe the line between the dreamy and the off-putting.

Kiana’s 2025 Honours Project is a series of nine paintings that explore non-linear narrative and the experience of dissociation. Painted on handmade irregular canvases, Kiana has constructed a narrative that delves into concepts of externalising internal experiences. With his signature use of bright saturated colour, Kiana pulls inspiration from horror cinema and literature, ideas of masks, identity concealment, and thresholds and presents them in a consolidated series of paintings.  .
