Jackson Taylor

Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours)

In my honours year, I have explored how shared experiences can be communicated through faux-naive figurative works. I paint everyday moments using playful proportions and simplified forms – from taking out bins to driving in a car. My aim is to make connections with the audience and evoke introspection from life's ordinary moments.

Central to my work is the use of point-of-view (POV) framing, where I position the viewer as the subject or protagonist by showing only their hands or feet within the scene. This perspective transforms the individual audience member from passive observers into active participant. Allowing them to literally see themselves in these familiar narratives. I often layer this perspective with mirrors and reflections, juxtaposing the viewer identity and painted subject.
