Memory is… explores individual experiences of memory as a blanket, made with polaroid emulsion lifts and embroideries. Polaroids are something I associate with fleeting moments and nostalgia. The colours each image produces have a unique aesthetic and convey a sense of a bygone time. The photographs were based on responses I collected from family, friends and workmates from a variety of age groups. The embroideries are responses to the question “what does memory mean to you?”

This piece explores memory as something that is not finite, as everyone has a different way of understanding their own memories. I wanted to use the aesthetics of polaroid photos to create a sense of fragility and ethereality. My experience of memory has to do with times that have passed, moments that were made, and things that are not forgotten.
