Master of Contemporary Practices in Art and Design (Advanced)
I am investigating the healing power of wearable objects – objects that share a physical and mental relationship with our bodies. My research has focused on amulets as objects historically used to protect the wearer from harm. I work directly from my own drawings which are instinctively gestural resulting in similar sculptural forms in metal. My hope is to empower the wearer of my necklaces, as well as the viewer, to engage healing through connection.
Sculptural works also include evaluation of contemporary political issues through sign and object making, specifically, masculinity in the contemporary and empowerment separate to that found in traditional power structures. These works whilst not worn on the body use contemporary jewellery methodologies.
