Helen Goodwin

Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours)

My series of paintings explores the embodied and disembodied experience of living in this moment. Through referencing the language of digital and paper collage my paintings are an experience of the physical sensations and psychological effects of engaging with the virtual online world. Through interacting with virtual spaces, we experience a simultaneous connection and disconnection from both our own bodies and the bodies of other people we encounter. My work examines this contradictory oscillating state where we merge and split between physical and virtual spaces. My process involves photographing my own source material to form dynamic compositions. I then reinterpret and re-embody static images through the use of gesture and tactile paint surfaces.
