Melissa Nickols

Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours)

In Rhizonarratives, Melissa Nickols transforms her kitchen table into a living workspace through art, story, and experiment. The work begins with the myth of Persephone's ascension from the underworld every spring: what might she witness now, and with each return in years to come? Fungi co-author what the artist begins, revealing stories written through matter itself. Drawing on speculative design and ecological thought, the works are an assemblage where human intention meets the agency of living things. Each piece becomes a narrative shaped by multispecies exchanges, decay, and renewal.
