Bachelor of Visual Arts
My work explores sensory perception and feeling through painted reliefs. I create subtly shifting optical fields that draw from the visual patterns occurring everywhere in our environment. These works in painted wood and MDF, use repeating triangular cross-sectional geometries at different scales and orientations together with different colours, light and shadow to engender varied physiological and affective responses.
In making this work, I have refined my awareness of the elusive, and sometimes imperceptible connections between what is perceived and how it is felt. Similarly, I hope viewers will encounter intriguing perceptual experiences stimulating further contemplation.
