Unstable Ground: A visual exploration of the contemporary sublime in the natural world.

Through immersive installations and abstract paintings, my practice creates dynamic interplay of light, colour, and transparent materials to explore the contemporary sublime.

Combing painting with dichroic film and lightboxes and architectural forms, the works create transient encounters with apocalyptic colour. This reflects on the role of technology and the impact of climate change on the natural world, evoking tensions between the awe-inspiring and threatening aspects of the ecological and technological sublime.

The materials, process, and tools of my practice are informed by my background in cooking and farming. This creates visceral layers of colour and light. Through this expanded painting practice, my project evokes sensations of the contemporary sublime as excessive, awesome, pleasurable, or dangerous yet equally vulnerable to instability, disorientation, and fragility.
